Cossypha natalensis
The red-capped robin-chat has a plain rufus face and body with conspicuous black eyes and slaty-blue back and wings. Its crown and nape are reddish-brown. Spotted here on Chumbe Island, just off the Tanzanian coast.
Found here in dense coral rag forest. Usual habitat is dense woodland. Distribution: Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Gabon, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe
According to one of the local ranger this bird is not one of the common residents on the island. Chumbe Island is a coral nature reserve developed since 1991. Find out more about Chumbe Island at http://www.chumbeisland.com
