Sialia sialis
This lovely male bluebird is perching on top of a nest box near the Lake Allatoona Visitor's Center. Bluebirds nest in tree cavities and will happily use nest boxes. They can raise up to three broods in a season. On this day, we also so a female emerge from the nest box, so even though it was late in the season, it is possibly there were eggs or young inside as well.
Eastern Bluebirds live in meadows and openings surrounded by trees that offer suitable nest holes.
Spotted near the Lake Allatoona Visitor's Center, Cartersville, GA
