38-40 cm, a small brownish duck with speckles. Bill blue gray, darker above. Head and neck light grayish buff finely speckled black; other wise dark brown above with paler endings, wing speculum green bordered buffy white behind, underparts buffy white (Hilty & Brown, 1986)
