Tau Emerald Dragonfly

Hemicordulia tau

Description:

A medium-sized dragonfly with a black abdomen, pinched near the base and fringed with orange crescent-shaped marks. Eyes on mature males are reddish brown and wings are transparent. The face is pale with an inverted T-shape, which gives the species its name.

Habitat:

Commonly found (flying) from September to May. Seen in Southern NSW, this species is common along the Australian East Coast from Victoria to Queensland.
