Unidentified Xylariaceae
This fungi belongs to the Family: Xylariaceae and it could be Xylaria sp., but this is by no means certain as explained by P.N. Ranger mauna Kunzah in her comment below.
Spotted growing on a little compost heap at one end of our garden that we don't visit too often.

Thank you for identifying the family Xylariaceae for this fungi. It is so helpful to me to receive this kind of guidance, because when it comes to Fungi, I am truly a complete novice and, of course, Xylariaceae; poss. Xylaria sp. sounds a great deal better than "wild spaghetti". Thank you for you kindness. John B.
I am certain that this is one of the Xylariaceae. It could be Xylaria sp., but there are a lot of different fungi that look visually similar in the family.
