Golden Eagle

Aguila chrysaetos

Description:

Today we released a Golden Eagle back into the wild. In September she had been hit by a vehicle after eating a prairie dog and was too heavy to get out of the way. After surgery, she stayed in the ICU for only 3 weeks. She then went to the flight cages to regain strength. Today this stoic bird was released back into the area she was found in!

Heather, you are too kind! Thank you! ...and thank you too Vishu! No blind and no tripod for me. (Although I should really use a tripod for stability and clearer shots!) I shoot just standing there. I try and act like I am ignoring the bird, as I walk up I take pictures along the way, getting closer and closer. (You never know when a bird might fly away) I get as close as they will let me or as as close as I can without disturbing them!

I like big bird too! He was always one of my faves!

Another fabulous series! Do you shoot just standing there, or in a blind or what? You have some amazing big birds shots. (Not the yellow Sesame Street Character either.) I mean raptors. Fabulous.

Great job! When I was in WY, one flew in front of my car. Let's just say I was wide awake after that! LOL!

Thank you all! To top it all off we had someone from the Audubon Society call this week and let us know they spotted her flying strong in the area hunting ducks! Very Cool!
