This is a special spotting, there were only two spotted in whole of the Netherlands and both of them were in the dunes near my place.

No I think that is the reason too. At the dunes we have some artificial rivers with currents. It's actually a watercleaning system.

I just did a bird counting last saturday. We got 18 dippers (against 38 from november 2011). So here it is not really rare but tricky to spot, specially when there is still some snow. Obviously in Holland it is quite rare which is probably due to the missing rivers with "strong currents". Or do you have another explanation? The pictures are excellent btw!

In the Netherland it is a rare guest. But never the less a very nice bird to spot. This hunt has taken a couple of days to get the right pictures. A have to say that the bird was getting use to all the attention it was getting from the spotters gathering around it.

Congratulations FoTony,in portugal,in the north where i live, this bierd is relatively easy to see,but very dificult to spot,they are extremely shine and fast,so you must have been lots of time to capture this for us,it's one of the bird's more emblematic of the river's in our area,thanks for sharing

I know, he moves very fast but there was good light so I could use High shutter speeds.

They also usually move enough to ;be difficult to get a picture. Nice Work! Beautiful pictures!
