Thread-waisted wasps (mating pair)

Eremnophila aureonotata

Description:

The blue-black body and silvery/gold patches (may wear off in older individuals) are distinctive. (information from BugGuide)

Habitat:

Habitat garden within a public park

Notes:

This looks like a huge insect flying about when you first see them. It took a few seconds to realize it was a mating pair of wasps and not one giant one because they remain hooked together while flying.
