These crabs can weigh up to 4 kilograms. They come in blue in the pacific but in the Seychelles they are red. The babies use coconut husks or abandoned snail shells for protection against their soft abdomen.
This crab lives in the pacific and indian. The mature crab lives on land unlike many crabs. The babies are spawned in the ocean.

Thank you everyone for all your kind comments. I am so excited to be nominated for SOTW, thanks Ashley.
Congratulations Caitie on your nomination - I know you'll be really excited about this! They are certainly fascinating creatures.
Great spotting! I'd love to see one in the wild. So far, I only saw them tied up and ready to be cooked on the market in Vanuatu :-(
Great spotting Catie. Congrats on your nomination.
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
Amazing creatures - thanks for sharing this.
Thank you for your comments DanielePralong, Dawn D. Lopez and Felix Fleck
