Resurrection Fern

Polypodium polypodioides

Description:

small fronded (3" long) fern growing epiphytically on vertical tree trunks. Fertile fronds with sporangia.

Habitat:

moist piney woods of SE Oklahoma

In science kits they sell these, but here in New York I am not sure if they can live outside and grow, any tips seeing how they grow wild? In the kit they say place in shallow dish of water by sunny windowsill and brown plant opens and turns green, but after a few days it looks rotted and never becomes green again.

In Florida this is called resurrection because in dry times it looks completely dead and one or two rains will bring it back to a healthy green.. It lives on Oak tree limbs.
