Mediterranean house gecko

Hemidactylus turcicus turcicus

Description:

The body ground color is pale and the dorsal surface is covered with dark spots and bumpy projections. The toe pads are visibly enlarged and the tail is usually plump. It has large eyes, vertical pupils, and no eyelids.

Habitat:

In Oklahoma, it is found in association with buildings. In warm weather it moves outside, and in cold weather is moves into buildings.

Notes:

This species was introduced to the Univ. of Oklahoma campus in the 1960s and has since spread to several other college campuses in the state. I personally know of 4 locations in different parts of the city of Tulsa where this gecko has been found and is reproducing. Also known as "Turkish house gecko."
