Plant gall

Class: Insecta

Description:

I'm still trying to identify the maker of this gall. Spherical with multiple exit holes and approx. 2 in. in dia. Midge or parasitic wasp not sure. If anyone could give me some direction for researching that would be great.

Habitat:

Spotted on an acacia plant of which I don't know the exact variety. Located along a trail through thorny bushland habitat at Falcon Lake State Park in South Texas.
