Pine ladybird

Exochomus quadripustulatus

Description:

A 3 mm long beetle with rounded glossy body with golden yellow and black patterns. The rim of the elytra appeared to flatten-out. Not able to comment on any significant features on head or thorax.

Habitat:

Public parkland with mixed pine and eucalyptus.

Notes:

Found this striking little beetle on the ground beside some logs. He seemed to be checking out low profile plants under a tall tree. Ground was moist after overnight rain. He was fast moving so, could not get better photos of him. The colouring on these seems to vary considerably with the lighter markings being anything between dull tan through oranges to bright red... http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Brumus... http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:V...
