Falco peregrinus
The Peregrine Falcon has a body length of up to 58 centimetres (23 in) and a wingspan from 75 to 120 centimetres (29–47 in). The female can be up to 30% larger than the male.
They are found widely across the globe. This particular bird is Falco peregrinus macropus; the Australian Peregrine Falcon. It is found in Australia in all regions except the southwest. It is non-migratory. The feet are proportionally large - thus the name macropus.
This bird was badly injured and went into the care of a wildlife rescue organisation in early 2012. The photo shows her attacking her food with gusto, and flying well. Not long after this, she was released into the wild (back into her territory). There is always a deadline with such birds, as if they are gone from their territory for too long, another may take its place.
