Praying Mantis

Description:

I'm pretty sure this is a South African praying mantis, an immigrant to New Zealand rather than the New Zealand native praying mantis.

Habitat:

Garden, back yard in rural Poverty Bay Gisborne.

Notes:

He/she was kind enough to pose for me in our garden on a Cosmos flower on a misty morning. Was lots of fun.

Hi Mary, Orthodera ministralis (Garden Mantis) is found in Australia. I don't know if they are also found in New Zealand but it seems like it should be close enough for them to travel there.
