I think this is Crimson Rose (Atrophaneura hector), a large swallowtail butterfly belonging to the subgenus Pachliopta (Roses) of the Red-bodied Swallowtails (genus Atrophaneura).

Habitat:

spotted in my garden in Tamil Nadu, Southern India
