Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus sp.

Description:

Eucalyptus tree with some serious leaks

Habitat:

Mixed tropical upland forest with native koa and ohia as well as alien species such as eucalyptus.

Notes:

Spotted along the north side of Aiea Loop Trail; this is why eucalyptus are also known as gum trees; this specimen was leaking sap from at least three holes, each ~ 1 cm diameter, possibly the work of wood-boring beetles; the third image is a re-post of the first, zoomed-in and cropped.
