Umbrosa Silkworm

Automeris sp.

Notes:

The problem with these green caterpillars is that you can't see them very well, and sometimes you can inadvertedly touch them... like I almost did this time!

Great spotting!

I'm very sorry to disappoint, but my expertise does not extend to immature moths (nor skipper butterflies and blues) – not enough hours in the day AND stay happily married.

Bayucca, this caterpillar was in a slightly dark place, and I didn't want to disturb it, so I did the best I could with the light I had. So, the colours may not be exactely accurate... One thing I can say is that "my" caterpillar's head was a bright red, unlike all caterpillars in those pictures. Lets do this, I'll keep it's ID as Automeris sp., untill someone correct me (I hope).

I think there might be a problem with my Umbrosa. Please compare:
Umbrosa:

I can't sort out the different species. I think yours has not this typical "sky-blue" upper body color as Naranja (if their ID is correct), but the link from Wolfe shows neither your bright green upper body part. So, my ID might be not correct. Best to ask Keith for assistance! Sorry for the confusion!
