Tachinid Flies

Description:

An obvious inflated abdomen with very prominant spines and bristles. The body appears robust with yellow and black colouring. All members internally parasite other insect as larva. Females lay eggs on the host or on the plant that a host insect eats. Upon hatching the larva make its way into the host and feeds on non essential organs and tissues saving these for when it is about to pupate. This particular one is know to parasitise only the larvae of the African Boll Worm. Adults however are nectar feeders and often have a loud distinc buzzing.
