Amazonian Stink Bug

Edessa rufomarginata

1 - 2 cm insect in the order Hemiptera. Wing covers are a shiny metallic blue/green color. Legs, eyes and antennae are bright red.

Found in the rain forests of the Loreto district in Peru. They can be found on the leave and branches of low shrubs and trees.

Bright colors warn would-be predators of its noxious odor and pungent taste.

We are gearing up for Amazon Awareness Week and would love to feature some of your photos. Thanks! ~Christa Dillabaugh, Education Director for Amazon Workshops
