Pipevine Swallowtail Caterpillar

Description:

The red and orange caterpillar of the Pipevine Swallowtain Butterfly is found throughout the state. The longest projections are found at the anterior end of the larva.

Habitat:

Caterpillars of this species can be found feeding on snakeroot leaves.

Notes:

After metamorphosis, this caterpillar emerges as an iridescent blue swallowtail butterfly.
