Nesting hen within the Aldrich Marshall woods in Lincoln, RI. I stumbled across her while I was making my way down a rocky slope. I was amazed at how close I was able to get.

Deciduous forests, open fields

Nice picture if the eggs! That looks like a much better nesting site than my photo. My guess would probably be a sick bird, especially seeing that I could get so close.

Still, usually, the hen finds thickets for the nest, in fear of egg eating predators.. Check this spotting in my back yard a few year back.. the weeds were about 3-4 feet tall there..

I think it may have been nesting. The pic is from May... not sure why the date is incorrect.

Wow! I wonder why its roosting on the ground?? Did it seem lame/sick?? Or was it just taking a dust bath??
