Congratulations Inês, this spectacular Stag Beetle is our Spotting of the Day!

"This impressive male Stag Beetle (Lucanus cervus) is our Spotting of the Day! Lucanus cervus is a species of stag beetle (family Lucanidae) found in Western Europe. Males with their spectacular enlarged mandibles can reach up to 100 mm. Project Noah member Inês Veloso photographed this beetle in Portugal, where, as in other parts of Europe, it has lost much of its habitat. Lucanus cervus is classified as Near Threatened in the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) Red List.
