Tillandsia

Tillandsia

Description:

Tillandsias are exotic members of the Bromeliad family. They are found growing in the humid jungles of central and South America, yet are adaptable to a wide range of environments. Tillandsias absorb water through tiny, sponge-like scales on their leaves. The genus Tillandsia was named by Carolus Linnaeus after the Swedish physician and botanist Dr. Elias Tillandz (originally Tillander) (1640-1693).

Habitat:

Mérida, Venezuela

Notes:

As you can see in the picture, this is a tiny tillandsia surrounded by moss.
