Little Blue Heron

Egretta caerulea

Description:

The Little Blue Heron is relatively small with slight body, slender neck, and long legs. It has round wings and a spear-like beak. Adult Little Blue Herons are very dark all over. At close range or in good light, they have a rich purple-maroon head and neck and dark slaty-blue body.

Habitat:

Little Blue Herons are found on quiet waters such as lakes, streams, or ponds, often tucked away in a hidden corner.
