Metalmark Butterfly

Calephelis sp.

Description:

Small rusty brown butterfly with black markings and two gray bands along the edges of the wings.

Habitat:

Bushes along the edge of an orange grove.

Notes:

As commented below, Calephelis has several species that are very similar to this spotting and the photo doesn't give enough information to narrow it down to the species. Higher resolution image can seen on my Flickr page

I would agree with Calephelis, but it is not C. virginiensis, which is notfound in Costa Rica. Usually I would not dare to ID a Calephelis from only a picture. There are tons around, all almost identical and with a great variability within the genus and species. Personally I would go with Calephelis sp.
