Northern Myotis

Myotis septentrionalis

Description:

Insectivore. This species has "spear-like" tragus in contrast to the "clubbed" tragus of similar myotis species (little brown, Indiana).

Habitat:

Maternity colonies are formed under exfoliating tree bark and tree cavities during the summer. During the winter these bats will exhibit torpor in the depths of caves.

Notes:

This species is currently experiencing mass mortalities in North America due to white nose syndrome: http://www.batcon.org/index.php/what-we-...
