Tringa nebularia
Larger wader from waders family, Scolopacidae; about 30 to 35 cm in length, and more heavily built than other representatives. Grey-brown and whitish bird, heavily streaked on head, neck and chest. It has a long bill that tapers from a heavy base and is slightly upturned. Long green-grey legs.
Seen on shores of soda lake in central Kenya. Observed during four to five days of my stay on shores, in loosely congregated groups of various waders, gulls and cormorants.
Other birds observed in this flocks were Common, Green, Wood and Marsh Sandpipers, Ruffs, stilts and stints, as well as some smaller plovers (Common, Kittlitz, three-banded plover)
