A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Hypolycaena erylus tmolus
This morning's butterfly: stripy legs, stripy body, stripy antenna, a rear-end that looks like another head with 2 'eyes' and a constantly twitching 'moustache', plus a long orange/red tongue (projecting from his real head) wanting to 'taste' everything... Who could think up such a delightful, hilarious creature!?! Wing height approx. 2.5 cm (1 inch).
Hills overlooking Manila.
I too am 3 years old in PN, and bayucca/Dominik has been a great influence to me. I humbly say that I learned from him and followed his example of having the patience and perseverance to get to the right ID, combing through available scientific journals and other reliable online materials. :) Whatever I learned in PN, I carried to PhiLep :) Thank you Dominik!
Bayucca, I so appreciated your ID help and expertise 3 years ago - and appreciate it to this day!
Haha, the truth is I am already so happy getting the genus… let alone the species… let alone the subspecies!! :)
This was obviously my first Asian wild butterfly I IDed 3 years ago! Rhanks Agnes for adding the correct subspecies. Even after some years on Project Noah Philippinian geography is still a mystery for me and I would not dare to get down to subspecies level.
Hi Ann! Pls change the ID to Hypolycaena erylus tmolus. This is the ssp occurring in Luzon. Regards! :)
Hi Ann. Pls add this gorgeous spotting to the Butterflies in the Philippines mission (http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/1555...). This would be a great addition to the mission. Thanks and regards!!
Cool!! Oh and I see now how these +1 and +2 works... Until now I have just added the same ID a second one, so that's the right way. Thanks!
@Gina: Would that mean you confirm my guess?? If, yes, wow!! That's the first wild Asian butterfly I have IDed. Cool!
My guess might give some IDea, but I am not sure, just a little playing around and listen to Philippine Blues ;-)...

Hi Ann! These little hairstreaks are numerous and can be hard to ID to the species...
Here's a great list of Philippines butterfly. The guide is not entirely pictorial but I hope it can help (for this and other spottings!):

ID updated... If anyone from the Philippines (or close-ish by) recognizes this creature so we can get the species...?
Sorry, but I can't help you, since yours are out of my range. It is for sure a Lycaenidae/Hairstreak. I am sure there are some experts around for this beauty!
