Four Lined Plant Beetles

Poecilocapus lineatus

Description:

Perhaps about a centimeter long, brightly colored, and extremely quick to hide. The nymphs look similar to the adults, but have a bit more red and are flightless.

Habitat:

I have found these on mint, coreopsis, sage, and various other plants. They do not seem to be very selective in what they eat.

Notes:

The beetles leave unsightly spots on the leaves of plants.
