Corythaixoides concolor
This bird is also known as the Grey Lourie, Grey Loerie, or Kwêvoël. It has a distinctive loud alarm call "quare", that sounds like it is saying "Go-away" (in English). It raises its crest when excited. It mainly eats fruit, including wild figs and berries, flowers and buds, leaves, termites and snails. This bird is clumsy in flight but agile in clambering through tree crowns. It often lives in social groups.
Savannas and woodlands of Southern Africa, as well as parks and suburban gardens, often near water.
Love the lacy look of the crest

Wonderful, Maria! That crest is spectacular!
Hi again, matimar1: thanks for your comment; I hadn't quite thought of it in that way!
Wow Maria, what an outstanding shot !!
I have also see them but I think it was in Namibia, it are strange but beautiful birds !
I can see where you might find it strange; I was surprised when I first saw it but I thought it was really cool.
I agree, Kat and Blaise. Impressive and lovely crest!

Congrats and great shot!
I feel this is the Cinderella among the other Louries (Knysna, Purple-crested), thus really enjoyed the Mohawk look!

"Check out the mohawk on this Grey Go-away-bird! When excited he raises his crest and makes a distinctive 'quare' or 'go-away' alarm call."

Thanks Sachin and Satyen!
Simply superb.
Fabulous captured,
That made me laugh, Leuba. The voice actually reminds me a bit of the (what I find irritating) "Alvin and the chipmunks" voice.
Thanks for the posting argybee - I had looked for one as I had mentioned the origin of its name in the description but I couldn't find a good one. Grateful that you did!
thanks argybee ! - just listened to it- amazing !!
Nopayahnah, are you sure it's s.African ?- sounds like it has an Aussie accent !!
