Blackspotted Puffer

Arothron nigropunctatus

Description:

Also known as Black Spotted Blowfish, Black Spotted Toadfish, Brown Pufferfish, Dogface Pufferfish and Pussy Pufferfish. The color varies from place to place. They feed on algae, coral, sponges, sea squirts, crustaceans and mollusks. They grow to a length of about 30cm.

Habitat:

Found singly on inner and outer reefs slopes and crests. Often found with sponges, at depths of 1 to 30m. Widespread in the Indo-Pacific region.

Notes:

I spotted this puffer at a depth of less than 30 feet, at the Dapia dive site, Talikud Island. It looked so cute trying to hide inside a small crevice on the wall.
