California Slender Salamander

Batrachoseps attenuatus

Description:

A very small salamander that seems to have lost its tail at some point. This one was found mostly buried under pine needles in about 55 degree weather.

Habitat:

Pristine Coastal Redwood forest.

Notes:

The first salamander I'd ever seen in the wild.
