A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Lachenalia nervosa
A red data listed plant photographed on a section of land preserved by the Napier Renosterveld Conservation project.
Renosterveld The habitat is severly threatened by commercial agriculture, primarily ploughing of wheat fields and grazing of cattle. Pockets too rocky for ploughing have now been fenced off to protect from grazing cattle and to preserve the rare and diverse plant species. This area boasts the last remaining ten hectares of silicrete renosterveld in the entire world.
Special thanks to Cameron McMaster for taking me to see these treasures. Links: http://www.iol.co.za/travel/south-africa... www.renosterveldmanagement.com/index.htm...
