Red Shafted Flicker Chicks

Colaptes auratus cafer

Description:

Three Flicker Chicks in Nest in side of house.

Habitat:

Alpine forest 1 NE of Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, Florissant Colorado

Notes:

These guys held up the re-fi on owr home loan, protected species so cannot molest in any way, but no re-fi with hole in side of house, happily they actually left the nest the day before closing. every year they knock a new hole in the house and then we patch it after they go, good thing they like to nest right under the upstairs window! This year we plan to install a pin hole camera to view them in the nest.

What a wonderful story!

Yes, It was quite noisy and much scuffling! We were so mesmerized we did not even think of taking pictures! (at night we could hear them inside the walls, now we look forward to them every year).
