Poet's Narcissus

Narcissus poeticus

Description:

Impressive and beautiful sight, end of May in Jura mountain pastures, when these pastures are literally covered in zillions of these delicate flowers - and every fifty meters there are people collecting them. Here we observed only few of them on montane grasslands, in my opinion because it was the end of the flowering season. The flowering stem reaches some 45 - 50 cm of height, and produce these beautiful delicate flowers of some 5 cm in diameter.

Habitat:

Found in Jura mountain range, on prairies of "plateau de Retord". The Retord is a vast plateau in southern part of the Jura Mountains, lying at about 1000m of altitude and covered by prairies and (coniferous or mixed) forests.

Notes:

I'm finding some mentions of various uses of this plant in traditional medicine, for treating various inflammations - I can't really say which ones and how... but knowing that the entire plant is toxic, and if ingested provokes vomiting and irritations, its use better be left to professionals. It is widely used in perfume-making industry.
