Sandwich Tern - non-breeding plumage

Description:

The Sandwich Tern is a medium to large tern. The bill is black with a yellow tip. The legs are also black. During breeding, the adult's heads are capped in solid black. They primarily feed on fish by plunge diving.

Habitat:

Southeastern U.S. - South America, West Indies. Coastal areas, freshwater lakes close to the coast.
