Spotted Porcelain Crab with Clark's Anemonefish

Neopetrolisthes maculatus & Amphiprion clarkii

Description:

A spotted porcelain crab and a Clark's anemonefish sharing the same anemone host. While porcelain crabs will try to defend its territory from anemonefish trying to establish itself in the host anemone, it is usually the latter that prevails. Two types of symbiotic relationships can be seen here - commensalism in the case of the porcelain crab and host anemone and mutualism with the anemonefish and host anemone.

Notes:

Spotted at Apo Front, Apo Reef Natural Park during a night dive.

Surprising that the fish usually comes out the winner in these conflicts!
