Gopher Tortoise

Gopherus polyphemus

Description:

It moved into my yard and has lived there for over a year now. It was so tiny when it first moved in. It moved its burrow to the other side of the lawn, I assume because it was too close to the street and was bothered by the cars driving and people walking by

Habitat:

Suburban yard next to fire-suppressed longleaf pine sandhill savanna
