Damask Roses

Rosa x bifera cv. autumn damask

Description:

This extremely ancient rose originated in the Middle East and was being cultivated in Europe by the 16th century. It is thought to be a cross between a Gallica, such as the Apothecary Rose, and Musk Rose. Autumn Damask was also known in France as 'Quatre Saisons' referring to its habit of re-blooming by the end of the season. The fragrant petals of this rose were used for making perfume and for their medicinal properties in the practice of apothecaries. Monticello and the Thomas Jefferson Foundation
