Green Map lichen

Rhizocarpon geographicum

Description:

Light green lichen on a big rock next to Massabesic Middle school.

Habitat:

The area that we were in was a small forest. And there were lot's of rocks with lichen on them.

Notes:

Are mission was to find lichen in the area of Massabesic Middle School. There was 15 centimeters of snow on the ground. The temperature was 3 degrees celcius. The wind speed was 18 mph gust 26 mph. I think the lichen that grows on a rock that we have is green map lichen. The scientific name for green map lichen is Rhizocarpon geographicum. I think it's Green map lichen because its light green, grows on a rock, and is crusty just like other websites describe it. The ground was snowy and muddy.
