Psilocybe coprofila
Small cap of 2-3 cm in diameter and semispheric shape all its life. Its color changes with the hydration level of the mushroom, from brownish-reddish getting paler as the dry. The surface is viscid, specially in rainy weather. Adnate and separated gills, grey to dark brown when the sopres mature, keeping the edge whitish. The stype is centered and cilindrical, not longeer than 5 cm, sometimes curved at its union with sustrate. Ochre colored with bluff and yellowish tinges. No ring. Whitish flesh with floury smell and strange taste between grass and flour. Very similar to Psilocybe merdaria, with green-olive tones, and to Psilocybe liniformans, with bigger spores.
Allways on top of horse, sheep or cow excrements.
This genus is best known for its species with psychedelic or hallucinogenic properties, widely known as "magic mushrooms", though the majority of species do not contain hallucinogenic compounds. Psilocin and psilocybin are the hallucinogenic compounds responsible for the psychoactive effects of many species in the genus.
