Many genera in the subfamily Biblidinae have heliotropic pupae that "stand" on the uppersurface of leaves, possibly mimicking the raised head of a snake (disturbed chrysalises make a hissing/swishing sound) when viewed frontally. Costa Rican examples include:
Callicore (spp.) – http://janzen.sas.upenn.edu/2700ARCHIVES...
Diaethria (clymena) – http://janzen.sas.upenn.edu/2700ARCHIVES...
Eunica (malvina) – http://janzen.sas.upenn.edu/2700ARCHIVES...
