Broad-bodied Chaser / Darter

Libellula depressa

Males: bright blue with yellow down their sides. All four wings have a black mark at the base.

One of the most common dragonflies in Europe. Can be seen in summer around ponds and lakes, and even in gardens.

It lives up to its name: its flattened body gives it a fat, broad look. Flight period: April - August
