Spotting

Description:

Didn't get a good look, but: as big as or bigger than a blue jay, long tail feathers, small head and beak, light reddish brown breast

Notes:

Admittedly, this is not a good picture. I heard a commotion in a bush, and saw lots of sparrows (most likely) flying out of it in droves, followed by this bird. It was much larger than the little birds, and had long tail feathers. It's not much, but I hope this is enough to go on. Thanks!

No way to tell from the picture, but I'm getting a Cooper's vibe based solely on proportions. Your description sounds more like a Sharp-shinned though. Especially when you mentioned the bird flushing out "sparrows".

Based on reported size I would guess sharp-shinned hawk. I think Cooper's hawks are larger.

Could be a Cooper's Hawk or a Sharp-shinned Hawk. Nice spot!
