Purple Finch

Carpodacus purpureus (Gmelin, 1789)

Habitat:

Urban

Notes:

This nest was built in my Boston Fern on my front porch. It wasn't a very good choice for momma, but the clutch did hatch.

No, sadly, they did not. My guess is that the nest wasn't well secured and the mother was inexperienced. I found the babies in the deeper parts of the fern and the nest tipped. I guess they didn't stay warm enough, or the mother abandoned them. They were beautiful, though.
