Amblypelta nitida
This insect was on our passionfruit vine. I found it difficult to identify but I think I may have it correct now. http://www.bioresources.com.au/FSBbiocon... http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_... http://lifeunseen.com/index2_item_902.ph...

OK, so we are really struggling... I think it might be Leptocorisa

The colouring looks right, but my husband thinks the body of our bug is too wide.
The shape of our bug is more like a Leptocoris:

but the colours look wrong!
Oh wow, you might be right! I will keep hunting...
May be a part of sub family of Stink bugs...Alydidae

Hi Ashish, I thought about that too but I think it is too long and thin to be a stink bug - our stink bugs are more round.
Most probably Stink Bug.
Thanks so much Livan, that gives me somewhere to start. We've found some pics of Scentless Plant Bugs that do look like this, but they are all in USA/Canada. The info about this bug in Australia seems pretty limited, but I found this: http://bie.ala.org.au/species/Rhopalidae.... I think it's going to take a trip to the library!
Not a hopper. This is a True Bug in the suborder: Heteroptera. I think it is in the family Rhopalidae (Scentless Plant Bugs) but I'm not familiar with bugs in your part of the world.
