Eastern Towhee

Pipilo erythrophthalmus

Description:

Dark bird in the sparrow family. This one is a subspecies with a white-eye instead of the typical dark eye. Has brown flanks and white belly. I really love the distinctive whistling sound they make.

Habitat:

Forages low to the ground. Spotted this one at Fulwood Park in Tifton, GA scratching through the leaves for insects.
