Small Winter Stonefly (Male)

Family Capniidae

Description:

A very small stonefly that was only about 8mm long. It was blackish/dark brown and had reduced wing venation. The wings of males are short or rudimentary. The cerci are longer than greatest width of pronotum.

Habitat:

Adults emerge in winter and early spring. I spotted this guy on a bridge that crosses a stream in a deciduous forest.
