Coton Easter

Cotoneaster lacteus .

Description:

These berries are very popular with the Cedar Waxwings. Flocks of Cedar Wax wings can be seen feasting on these. These berries are poisonous when unripe. When ripened, they turn red and our safe for consumption by birds. The seeds remain toxic, however. The Cedar waxwings are the only birds that eat the berries and that can pass the entire seed thru their system and out.

I too think its Cotoneaster lacteus . Toyon berries abound in South California and its not that bush. You could re-check Emma.

loarie,i have a spotting of Cotoneaster. It is very different in the way the berries are placed on the stems and in terms of the leaf arrangement.
These Toyon berries are native to California and a good source of food for Cedar Waxwings.
i am not sure but Cotoneaster seems to be more of an ornamental plant.
